Wood, Books & Accessories from the Workshop of the late M. G. Bouette

Start date Tuesday 11 August 2020 End date Wednesday 26 August 2020

Martin Bouette's father, Maurice Bouette, worked as a violin maker and repairer from the family home before becoming the first Director of the Newark School of Violin Making in 1972.

During his time at the German School of Violin Making, Martin visited the wood yards in and around Mittenwald and this led to a close working relationship with Maurice who began sourcing stock from the same yards, helped by his son who conveniently spoke German!

In a large barn near Newark, the very large stock of wood was kept with great care and attention. Makers both amateur and professional bought wood and Maurice took great pride in helping makers find just the right sample. Both Maurice and Martin understood the value of seasoned, carefully chosen wood from knowledgeable, traditional suppliers.
