Lot 188

A reproduction map of Cremona

Estimate: £50 - £100
Bidding ended. Lot has been sold.

With the following label on the reverse:

This map appeared in at least two editions, the first printed in 1582 and the second with some small changes to the title blocks was printed in 1645. This is a reproduction of the second edition. It is the work of the artist Antonius Campus. It shows Cremona at the time of Andrea Amati's death (c. 1580), much of which remained unchanged until long after the death of Antonio Stradivari 150 years later. The coat of arms is that of the Spanish Royal House, who ruled Cremona throughout most of the classical period, until the Austrians took over early in the 18th Century.
